The Bucket List's Evil Twin

We all have a bucket list of some sort right? Well today, I'm bringing you the evil twin of the bucket list.  The "things I've experienced, but never wanted to." list.   I was going to do this a few weeks ago, but decided to wait to see if I could think of something else, and then this weekend I added another thing to my list.

So here is my things that I never wanted to experience, but have now experienced list...

Having a tire blow
This is the thing that made me think of this list.  Mady and I were on the way home from work a few weeks ago, and I honestly thought she hit the curb, but it ended up being that we blew a front tire.  We both may have uttered "Oh Sh*t" when it happened. Mady called our parents and they had just fallen asleep, but they did come out and help!

Having my eyes unsewn
When I was younger, I had multiple major surgeries, and before one, they put me under and sewed my eyes shut because they were afraid that if they didn't, my eyes would pop out of their sockets.  Yeah, well y'know the saying what goes up, must come down? Well, what is sewn, must be unsewn, unless I wanted to be blind.  #obviouslyididnt But here's the kicker, they didn't find it necessary to put me to sleep to UNSEW them! I was kicking and screaming and yelling "DADDY KICK THE NURSE! HIT THE NURSE DADDY! (I feel like I should mention that my dad is a cop and I thought he could do whatever he wanted, I was 7, so give me a break :) )

Fainting in Public.
I've been lucky enough to have this happen to me twice(to quote the great Kenzie, where is my sarcasm font when I need it?) Once when I was in eighth grade and I honestly can't remember the second time, but I wrote twice in my notes, so there must have been another time that I am mentally blocking right now.

Throwing up at the state fair.
Yep, this one just happened this weekend.  In case you don't live in Minnesota and your facebook feed or twitter feed isn't blowing up with how stinking hot and humid it was, it was stinking hot and humid.  Well Meghan, you may ask, why on God's green Earth would you go to the state fair on a day like that? & I'd say good question my friends, but here's the deal, my uncle was in town from Colorado and he wanted to go, and I wanted to spend time with him.  & I wanted to go to the state fair dang it! So we are there for like 2 hours and I've been drinking milk and I had an Icee and some lemonade and maybe a few swigs of water, but we're all sitting underneath the stairs at the unlimited milk barn and I feel like I'm gonna get sick, so I'm like excuse me, excuse me, I ran over to the nearest garbage can, and I caught my breath and turned to walk back to the group and both of my uncles(it really was a family affair, my Uncle Jeff and his fam came and my Uncle Jim and his fam came.) were both staring at me and they were like are you okay? I said no, and then went over to the dumpster and obviously ended up getting sick.  SO embarrassing, but I like to keep it real up here on They Call Her Meghan!

Inspiration.

You are my inspiration, my only inspiration.  Oops wrong song.  There are so many people that inspire me, so I’ll just give you a few people that I get inspired by.

My grandparents.   All six of my grandparents are very special to me and they have inspired me.  My mom’s parents were married 46 years exactly before my Grandpa passed away, and the love that they shared was inspiring.  My grandma had many health problems throughout her life, but my grandpa was always right there by her side until the day he died.  My mom and aunt have always said he was much better at being a grandpa than he was being a dad, but they say he became a better dad as well when he became a grandpa. My grandpa was one of the hardest working men I know.  My dad’s parents have been married for almost 53 years and they still love each other as much as the day they were married.  My grandpa was in the military and stationed over in England and flew my Grandma over there because they couldn’t live without each other, cue the aww!  Lastly, my stepmom’s parents.  I have always been very close with them.  Ever since my Grandpa’s first diagnosis of cancer, I’ve just been so close to him and he’s my hero.  My grandma and I, although our relationship has not come easily, she has always pushed me and inspired me to do better.  I may want to rip my hair out after talking with her, because I get frustrated, at the same time, she’s always inspiring me to do better, to be the best me I can possibly be and I love her for that.

My parents. My mom, my dad, my stepmom and stepdad.  All have their place in my life, and all have their own ways of inspiring me.  My mom.  She’s an amazing nurse and an even more amazing momma.  When I was younger and in and out of the hospital, she was my advocate, she was never far from my bedside.  She works very hard to be the best possible nurse she can be and that inspires me.  The care she gives to the elderly is bar none and she is so caring, I don’t think I’d be able to do her job and not completely break down, therefore, she’s inspiring to me.  My dad.  He knows exactly what buttons to press of mine to tick me off and make me complain about him, but he also is one of the hardest workers I’ve ever met.  He does everything for his family and for that, he inspires me.  His motto of work hard, and play harder has always inspired me as well.  My stepmom, Lynn.  She has worked hard her whole life to be where she is at today, and she makes no excuses for herself and for us kids.  She is also a hard worker and tells it like it is, no sugarcoating from that stepmom of mine, no sir, but that’s how she inspires me, with her no excuses, no bull way of life.  My stepdad is one of those jack of all trades type of guys, except he’s pretty good at every one of those little things he does.  He inspires me by always helping out whenever he’s needed, he may seem rough around the edges, but inside he’s a big teddy bear.

My Siblings. I love each and every one of my siblings and there is something about each one that inspires me.  The way Nik is only 23 and has already served a tour overseas.  The way Rebekka sees the best in people and goes after her dreams.  The way Mady stands up for herself and doesn’t take crap from anyone.  The way Matt works two jobs and still has time to be a normal 17 year old.  The way Zakery doesn’t care what people think of him and marches to the beat of his own drum.  The way Ryan isn’t ashamed of his faith and shares it with anyone who is willing to listen.  The way Olivia shows people who tells her she can’t, she can.

My Blog Friends.  Jayme has become SO much more than just a blog friend, but she inspires me by kicking ass in school, I wish I had half of the smarts and motivation this girl did! Kenzie inspires me by choosing not to let her JA get her down, but kicking its butt.  Chelsea inspires me by not only by being a great mommy to her precious daughter, but also going through nursing school, which I hear is pretty grueling.  Raven inspires me because she doesn’t follow anyone’s rules and girlfriend is funny!

My Coworkers. We all have a unique story and each one of them has taught me some sort of inspiration.  Vaye has inspired me to not let much get me down, to roll with the punches, that sometimes, you just have to shut up and deal with it.  Karen has inspired me by taking me under her wing and loving me like another daughter.  Her belief in me and anything I choose to do has inspired me to do my best.

Customers. When everyday people come in to my job and do nice things for other people they don’t know, that inspires me.  When a customer turns in a purse they found out in the parking lot, it’s inspiration to me to be better, to look for the good in everyone and not always assume the world is such a bad place all the time.

My Mistakes.  I have learned that everybody makes mistakes and my mistakes inspire me to be a better person and to learn from each one.  They have inspired me to work hard to do things right the first time and take time to make sure I’m doing the right thing.

There are many other places I draw inspiration from, whether it be a song lyric that won’t get out of my head or a picture that takes my breath away.  Or a line from my favorite book.  Inspiration looks different to each person, where do you draw inspiration from?

Word count= 1,034-I struggled.  My goal is 1500 for next week’s  post.

I Had Two Shots and a Roll in the Hay with A Southern Hurricane.

This past weekend was one of the best I've had in a really long time.  I took a long weekend with my mom and our family to go down to the Knoxville Nationals, which are sprint car races, the best of the entire year.  We went down Thursday afternoon, it's about a four hour drive from our town in Minnesota to Altoona, IA, which is where we were staying.

Thursday night, I got to meet one of my oldest blog friends, Jayme. Oh boy, was it an adventure! We were going to meet up last year, but it just didn't work out, and then when I found out we were going down again for this year, we started making plans to hang out.  Then, in June, she texted me saying there's a new country bar that just opened, and I knew what we would be doing when I went down.  We had both googled this place, The Horney Bull, it was called, and we were so excited because they had a mechanical bull and you could dance on pickup tailgates and it was over 10,000 sq. feet.  We drove to the spot where it was supposed to be and NOTHING!

how Jayme and I felt when we found out Horney Bull wasn't around anymore :(

We looked for other country bars and came up with Shotgun Betty's.  We had so much fun!  That's where my title comes from, Jayme helped me take my first shot, and then I got a roll in the hay and then two southern hurricanes, I didn't feel anything after the first hurricane and first shot.  We took photobooth pictures, I requested a few songs and we yelled them at the top of our lungs(okay that was mostly me!), then we decided that we were gonna go outside and do a vlog, which we thought was pretty hilarious in our state, still waiting for the bestest to send me a copy of it, so I can watch it...sober.

I know I've talked about my best friend before on le blog, but meeting her was absolutely amazing!  The one decision we're changing for next year, is going out on Friday, instead of Thursday!  Anyways, she has started a new blog(yes, she has blogged before!) and I would love if you guys would all go over and say hey!  Her blog is Future Mrs. DC.

Friday was a day of just relaxing and recovering from the night before.  We did a little shopping, went out to Pizza Ranch for lunch and then while the majority of the group went to the second night of the race, my mom,  younger brother and I hung out at the hotel and watched a movie, Broken City, which was a good drama!  It had lots of eye candy too! Mark Wahlberg, Russell Crowe and Kyle Chandler to name a few!

Saturday was my day to go to the races, so I bummed around the hotel until that evening when it was time to get ready to go.  I love this kind of racing, there's just something fun and exciting about dirt track racing!  My first two picks didn't win, but the defending winner and my third pick did win!

Sunday was spent driving to my aunt and uncle's to pick our other vehicle up(we went with them and took one of each of our vehicles.), and then I watched the race, and just tried to get back into real life after being gone for a long weekend.

H54F #1

I had a pretty good week this week, so I thought I would participate in Lauren's H54F link-up!

-one-

I took Monday off to ride around Minnesota with my stepdad in his rig.  It was a cool way to see more of my state. Truckers are of three types I deduced in my travels 1) crotchety old men 2) hot young truckers 3)female truckers who scared the poop out of me.  I was in a truck stop restroom and a lady trucker yelled at me, asking if I was going to flush, SORRY! I thought it was automatic flush. My bad.

-two-

One of my best work friends has been in the hospital battling meningitis, and on Wednesday, she was ready for visitors so one of my other co-workers went down to see her!  I've missed her at work! So while her being in the hospital isn't a happy thing, the fact that I was able to go see her was!

-three-

Wednesday I got an email from my sweet Grandma just checking in on me to see how I was doing.  I love when she just emails to say she was thinking of me!

-four-

I'm going down to Iowa this weekend for the Knoxville Nationals which are the elite Sprint car races.  I'm pretty excited.  This is my second year going.

-five-

While I'm down in Iowa, I get to meet my bloggy bestie, Jayme!  I will have a full recap on Monday!

True Life: I'm A Country Girl.

I grew up in a suburb of Minneapolis, and graduated from that same suburb.  I then moved out to my Dad's which was 45 minutes north.  I have lived there now 3 years, with what I have going on in my life now, I'm splitting my time between both of my parents houses and yeah, I'm 21, but this is what is working for me! Anywho, I have realized that I'm definitely less than amused with the people of Minneapolis than I was when I was surrounded by them.  Here are the top three things that I have NOT missed in Minneapolis:

1) ALL of the people, daaaang, in ER, there are a lot less people, and it's a lot less crowded, small town life is definitely slower!

2) People yelling Scripture at me.  Yes, I am a Christian, yes I sin, but guess what, so do you! Let the sinless man be the first to cast a stone..you will not lead anybody to Jesus while yelling at them #truth

3) Creepers.  I have had more than one guy come up to me and ask for my number while down in Minneapolis.  Dude, you're like 35 and you probably still live with your mommy.  No. Just no.

So are you more of a city person or are you like me and prefer the small town life?

It's Okay..

Do you miss It's Okay from Neely & Amber? Well, my friend Amber(different Amber!) has an It's Okay link-up as well, and it's on Tuesdays, so if you want to join in on the fun, hop on over to her blog!

It's Okay....

that you got way overly excited when Des picked Chris last night, Brooks who?

that you are also excited that Juan Pablo is the next Bachelor.

that you laughed at your stepdad when he shushed you because you were talking during the finale last night.

that you are a little nervous, but completely excited that you are meeting your best friend for the first time on Friday!

that you are getting the itch for Fall to be here already.

that you are excited for your mini-vacation that starts on Thursday.

that I'm already on the countdown to see Dierks Bentley and Miranda Lambert, 66 days!  I ended up not getting Tim McGraw or Blake Shelton tickets.

What's Okay with you today?

02 August 2013

She's My Person.

I'm just gonna lay it out here, I didn't have many friends growing up.  I still only have a few best friends that I know I can count on if anything were to happen.

When I was about 15, I stumbled upon a diary website that I still write on to this day.  I have gotten to know many people who are close and a few who I consider people that I really really hope I get to meet someday.  & then there's Miss Jayme.  I found her diary randomly, and there was some drama, and we became really close, she's who I would consider my best friend.

She makes me laugh, picks me up when I'm down, live tweets Nicholas Sparks' and Sarah Dessen's books with me, laughs at people on Preacher's Daughters with me, and swoons over the eye candy on Army Wives with me.

Next Friday, I am going down to her stomping grounds, Des Moines, for the Sprint National races in Knoxville, and we FINALLY get to meet! To say I'm excited is a little bit of an understatement, but any of you who have met a blog friend know what I'm talking about!

Thank you bestest for always being "my person." The Christina to my Meredith, the Claudia Joy to my Denise, the Spongebob to my Patrick, ever since we've started talking, you've always been here for me, thick and thin, love you(:
